The Drukpa lineage has its roots in the Kagyu tradition and was founded in 1206 by Tsangpa Gyare Yeshe Dorje. Drukpa Peru is a civil association that represents the Drukpa lineage in our country under the spiritual guidance of His Holiness the 12th Gyalwang Drukpa and His Eminence Gyalwa Dokhampa. As part of our compassion-based spiritual practice, we do work for people in need, rescue and feed abandoned animals, and clean beaches.

Our origin
The Drukpa lineage is a school of Vajrayana Buddhism founded in 1206 by Tsangpa Gyare Yeshe Dorje (1161-1211), a great yogi and meditator. When Tsangpa Gyare arrived at the place where his guru, Lingchen Repa, had entrusted him to build a monastery, he witnessed an extraordinary phenomenon: nine dragons flew into the sky accompanied by a loud clap of thunder and white flowers raining down. Inspired by this event, he decided to name his lineage Dongyu Palden Drukpa, which translates as Glorious Dragon Lineage. Successive incarnations of Tsangpa Gyare are known as Gyalwang Drukpa and are the supreme leaders of our school.
Jigme Pema Wangchen, born in 1963, is the 12th Gyalwang Drukpa and the current head of our lineage. Recognized as a leading environmentalist, educator, and spiritual guide, His Holiness posits that Buddhism is more than a religion; it is an integral philosophy about beings and phenomena, and urges us to live positively in order to contribute to the betterment of the world we inhabit.
